Omaha Hi Lo Poker is a game in which each player gets four cards and then they must use two of them to make their best hand. Then there are five common cards put on the board that all players share, thus increasing the likelihood of making strong hands because if one player has one of those five cards their hand becomes better. It is a game in which you have to read your opponents pretty well, since there are many draws available and it is possible that an opponent beat your made hand.
A very important part of this game is to know when you have to “play” for the high side or the low side. And if you don’t know what we am talking about, this article will explain everything to you. Also, it is a game with pre-flop raises and four betting rounds. This means that you can win a lot in one hand if you play well.
Another thing that makes Omaha Hi-Lo Poker interesting is the use of community cards and that is that there are certain hands that you will be able to make with more than one hand and some of them will not be possible.
The best part of this format is when a player makes a straight or a flush on the turn cards, because if they do, it will make your made hand worthless, since you won’t stand a chance to win against a straight or a flush.
Sometimes if you do not have a hand that can compete with the players that already have something going, it is better to throw your cards and try to bluff. Although this isn’t always profitable, it will work in certain situations, but only if your opponents don’t know what you are doing. When you play Omaha Hi-Lo Poker, you will be playing with four cards and not five, so it means that the probabilities of making a certain hand will decrease.
Omaha Hi Lo 8 or better is basically the same as the high version of this game but it has an extra bet. What you have to do is that you must use two cards from eight to give your best hand, instead of two cards from four.
This means that the better hands will decrease but what increases are the bad ones because there are more ways in which you can make them. This actually brings us to another point where if you have a very bad hand it is better to throw them away and play for the high, because your chances of making something good will decrease.
Most players do not like playing Omaha Hi Lo 8 or Better because they think that this game has more luck, but it really doesn’t matter if you know what you are doing since any version can be profitable.
In our opinion, we think you should try both version and make a decision from there which one suits your style better.
